Our services include face to face, hybrid and fully online professional development across a range of critical topics. We partner with the North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS) and are also available to partner with other organizations to meet their professional development needs. Additionally, ABSPD conducts three day summer institutes on various topics each year in late May/early June. We have been providing these services to adult educators since 1988. Institute 2020 – Essential Components of Reading CI5531 Essential Components of Reading Strong reading skills helps adult learners make measurable skills gain and plays a role in their ability to attain a secondary school diploma, transition to postsecondary education and training, and secure employment. WIOA specifies that “the essential components of reading instruction” be incorporated into instruction of adult learners. Participants will learn explicit and systematic instruction techniques for teaching phonemic awareness; phonics; vocabulary development; reading fluency, and reading comprehension. Participants enrolled in this course will be required to develop a plan to address issues affecting their own classroom and/or program based on the knowledge and skills they acquire during this course.
